Logical systems are unique in their functioning. One of the key aspects to understand is that they are cross-client. This means that once you define them in a SAP server, they automatically become available in other SAP clients.

This feature is incredibly beneficial as it saves time and reduces the chances of errors that may occur due to manual inputs. Defining a logical system in SAP is the first step towards setting up a ALE Distribution model for example.

This ALE distribution model, automates exchange of master data in an automated manner.

Maintaining a Logical System within SAP

Maintaining logical systems is a straightforward process. It is done using the transaction SALE. The steps to follow include accessing the IDoc Interface, moving to the Application Link Enabling (ALE) section, and then defining the Logical System.

How to Transport Logical System

Transporting a logical system from a development environment to a quality or production system is a step-by-step process.

Here’s how you can do it:

  • Step 1- Start by navigating to the development environment and go to transaction BD54.
  • Step 2 – After reaching BD54, select the Logical System you wish to transport. Once you have made the selection, click on the Menu.
  • Step 3 – The final step involves creating a Transport Request to include the Logical System. After doing so, the system is ready to be moved to the desired location.

You can use Bd54 or transaction code SALE to configure Logical System in SAP.

A Logical System is another SAP or Non-SAP system which exchange information. An example of the former case is SAP PI since it is an external system which exchanges data with SAP ECC / S4. A non-SAP system which can exchange data could be Salesforce for example.
